Rachel G.

Teaching Assistant - Baguley Hall Primary School

Anna has worked with and transformed 100’s of primary and secondary schools. She has excellent subject knowledge and a solid understanding of how schools work and is currently a member of the advisory group for the Department of Education. This puts her in a unique position to be able to offer thought leading talks on the latest approaches to mental well being in schools.

She has spoken at educational and mental health conferences and events here in the UK and overseas, in America and Croatia. She speaks with a distinct passion and knowledge that rouses audiences to take action on her words and practical advice as soon as they return to their workplace.

Join me on a day of transformation as we explore what it means to take a whole school approach to mental health and wellbeing. I will share key learning from the last 15 years as a consultant and trainer across 100’s of schools as well as drawing on the wealth of experience in the room.

In the morning – If it’s predictable, it’s preventable

We will be re-evaluating school systems and processes, understanding how curriculum plays a significant part in prevention and the fundamentals of fostering a psychologically safe environment.

In the afternoon – Getting comfortable with discomfort

This will have a focus on signs and symptoms of key mental health difficulties for staff and pupils and the self-help strategies needed which manage discomfort and overwhelm.

I’m Anna Bateman, I help schools put mental health and wellbeing at the heart of school improvement.

Over the last 30 years within education, I have trained and advised 1000’s of educators and leaders, advised the DFE on their mental health green paper and am the lead subject specialist for The National College for over 6 years and a strategic lead for Birmingham Education Partnership for over 8 years. As of January I was appointed Director for wellbeing and family services for Leigh Trust, where we are embarking on an ambitious and exciting journey focused on meeting the needs of our most vulnerable families.

I’m looking forward to our day together!
